Admire Windsor Castle, the Queen’s favourite home, before exploring Hampton Court – the beloved palace of Henry VIII.
8 hours – 2 sites
4 hours – 1 site
The favourite home of Her Majesty the Queen, Windsor Castle is where Queen Elizabeth the Second lives in medieval grandeur and modern luxury.
See the throne room, the Garter Hall where knights are dubbed, the royal portraits and private collections of porcelain and Old Master works of art. Queen Mary’s dolls house, made in 1935, contains working electric lights and miniature furniture and accessories created by the top artists of the day. The Chapel of St George has seen royal weddings and burials since 1348 and was chosen by Prince Charles for the blessing of his marriage to Camilla.
Watch the Changing of the Guard and be amazed by the sweeping view of Eton College from the East Terrace. Lunch in one of the town’s historic pubs and shop like a queen in Windsor’s beautiful shopping arcade, the lovingly converted Victorian royal railway station.
Hampton Court Palace
Where Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn lived and loved, and the birthplace of Henry’s longed-for son who became King Edward VI. Wander among the palace’s historic (and haunted!) galleries, lose yourself in the famous maze, and imagine yourself cooking in the restored 16th century kitchens! With its children’s history trails, jousting ground, flower gardens and woodlands created by the monarchs’ master gardeners, Hampton Court is truly a riverside pleasure ground for the whole family.
